As part of my gluten-free diet, any type of Mexican food seems to be a go-to. Now that we are moving into fresh fruits and vegetables season here in the midwest, the amount of homemade guacamole in my house is a little bit nuts… but so good.

Why Guacamole?

Here’s a secret: avocados are the superheroes of the produce aisle. They are packed with healthy fats, vitamins, and minerals.

Bonus points: They’re naturally gluten-free, making them the perfect topping for virtually anything. Yes, I’m looking at you, avocado toast.

Homemade guacamole is not only a treat but also packed with nutrients. It’s a double win.

How To Make Homemade Guacamole

So, how do you make homemade guacamole? It’s easier than you think!

Start with ripe avocados—they should be slightly soft to the touch but not mushy. This is key to the best.

Once you slice open the avocados, remove the pit and put them in a bowl. If you need the guacamole to last more than 10 minutes, I highly recommend keeping the pit in it. It will help keep it from turning brown. While brown guacamole doesn’t mean it’s bad, having the pit in there does keep it fresh for longer.

To make my basic homemade guacamole, I keep it simple.

I also add a little lime juice, garlic powder, onion powder, and sea salt to one large avocado. That’s it.

However, here’s where you can get creative.

Add some diced tomatoes, onions, or cilantro to jazz up the simple guacamole. It’s all about how you love to eat it.

Quick Tip: Make sure those avocados are ripe. One time, I accidentally used unripe avocados, and let’s just say, it was not pretty. So, learn from my mistakes and always make sure your avocados are nice and ripe before starting. If you find them to be a little bit hard, throw them in a brown paper bag overnight, and you’ll be good to go.
