Wellness Shots: Is This Trend Good For Your Health?

June 2, 2023

Ahhhh, TikTok trends, quite often, are the bane of my existence. However, the wellness shot is a trend I think is worth talking about a little bit more.

For starters, what is this wellness shot trend?

All over TikTok and Instagram, you might see women dancing and taking a shot (out of a shot glass) of what looks like orange juice each morning. It’s a mixture of turmeric, ginger, lemon, and sometimes orange.

Comments about it being a wellness shot, beauty shot, improving complexion, healing their guts, etc., can be found in captions or written on the videos.

The big question do the wellness shots help with gut health, complexion and overall health?

It can.

Let’s break it down a little bit.

These wellness shots are built off of three main ingredients: turmeric, ginger & lemon (sometimes orange too).

Each of these has its own added benefits.

Turmeric: A spice filled with anti-inflammatory properties, it can help with pain relief, protect from viruses, reduce arthritis, improve complexion & help with digestion.

Ginger: A spice that can help with nausea and shows signs of lowering blood pressure, cholesterol levels, menstrual pain, and cancer risk. Ginger is also known to help fight infections.

Lemon: A fruit that is a good source of vitamin C that can help reduce cancer risk, improve digestive health, boost energy levels and improve your immune system.

By taking all three of these and putting them together into the wellness shots, you are adding a lot of value to your body at one time.

Is it going to change your health overnight? No.

However, if you have digestive issues or a lower immune system, it could be an added benefit to your day.

TLDR: the wellness shots won’t hurt in any way to drink, but it won’t be the single fix for all of your health issues.

How do you make the wellness shots?

This combination has helped me with digestive issues when my stomach is upset, so I keep some on hand in case.

After going through several recipes on Google (all fairly similar), I added the following combination to my juicer.

  • 1 orange
  • 2 lemons
  • 1/4 knob of ginger
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/8 tsp black pepper

It made 2-3 servings and has been good when I add it to sparkling water. Doing shots on their own isn’t my thing.

What are your thoughts on the wellness shots trend?
