It’s always Taco Tuesday in our house, especially as a gluten-free family. Tacos are an easy go-to meal when you’re looking for something gluten-free that most of the family will like. You can also eat them as nachos, tacos, sweet peppers, enchiladas, etc. You’ve got options. Something that you will quickly find, though, is the need for a gluten-free taco seasoning.

Are All Taco Seasonings Gluten-Free?

When grocery shopping, it’s easy to grab the first taco seasoning packet and toss it in your cart. However, now that you are on a gluten-free diet, you need to pay closer attention when making your grocery list.

Many taco seasonings are not gluten-free due to fillers added along with the spices. Gluten is often used as a thickening agent, so it’s common to see it in pre-made seasoning packets.

There are gluten-free taco seasonings; as usual, you will need to read the ingredients and look for the certified gluten-free label.

Making Homemade Gluten-Free Taco Seasoning

While we could buy taco seasoning, I prefer to make it at home for various reasons.

Once we started making it at home, there was no going back. The amount of salt in a standard packet of taco seasoning becomes very noticeable when you don’t eat it often.

We also found that making homemade taco seasoning meant more control over the flavor. Extra spice could be added or tamed down depending on who was eating it.

Instead of keeping you guessing, I’m sharing my homemade gluten-free taco seasoning recipe with you below. This is a mild spice seasoning. If you want it spicer, increase the chili powder by 1 tsp.

Grab the recipe and add it to your meal plan for next week!
